Porto Musical - The Long Tail
Starting with Brad Powell conference, the one in which someone said that Calabash.music could soon be called the Independent Music's Google. The idea sounds great (and melodic), but Brad main focus is not yet climbing Google's path. Instead, he wants people to understand that there are many other ways to reach a peak. And to introduce the gate to these high ways, he gave us a link: Chris Anderson article about The Long Tail.
Later that morning, Brad talked to me and said: "Giving it away for free allows the audience to make the music familiar to someone who wouldn’t necesseraly buy it. The average online music fan wants to learn from another user more than anyone else. The way to sell music is not to sell it. The challege now is for musicians to develop their own fan pages and to develop a very good relation with fans so that they’re the ones who will come on to their sites and say “Hey, you know what? My favorite artist is this one!” And Bang!
